Tan Son Nhat Airport Taxi and Grab Safety Guide

Travelers arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport can use taxis or ride-hailing services such as Grab to reach central Ho Chi Minh City.

However, there have also been reports involving unofficial drivers, people pretending to be ride-hailing drivers, and requests for unclear or unexpected additional payments.

To reduce the risk of transport problems, carefully verify the driver, vehicle, license plate, pickup location, and fare information before getting into any car.

Taxi and Grab safety tips at Tan Son Nhat Airport

  • Do not immediately enter a vehicle offered by someone who approaches you unexpectedly inside the terminal or arrival area.
  • Use an official airport taxi stand or the pickup location shown in your ride-hailing app.
  • For app-based rides, confirm that the license plate, vehicle type, driver name, and driver photo match the information displayed in the app.
  • For taxis, check the company name and vehicle markings, and confirm that the meter is operating after the trip begins.
  • When a fare is quoted in advance, confirm the amount, currency, airport surcharge, and any other additional charges.
  • Check the denomination and currency of banknotes before making payment.

Estimated fare from the airport to central Ho Chi Minh City

A four-seat taxi from Tan Son Nhat Airport to District 1 commonly costs around 200,000 VND.

This amount is for reference only. The actual fare may vary depending on the destination, vehicle type, traffic conditions, travel time, airport surcharges, and other applicable fees.

Before departure, check the taxi meter, the fare shown in the app, or the price agreed with the transport provider.

Avoiding fare disputes

If the requested payment differs significantly from the taxi meter, the fare shown in the app, or the agreed price, ask the driver to clarify the charges before paying.

When the issue cannot be resolved, ask your hotel staff, airport support staff, or VJP VIP Services for assistance.

Additional steps for a safer journey

Keep your destination address or hotel name available in Vietnamese or display it through a map application.

After entering the vehicle, consider sharing the license plate and live location with a family member or travel companion.
